Masauli is a small village in Pratapgarh district, Uttar Pradesh — the village where Udbodh co-founder Anadi spent his childhood summers. His childhood friend Rohit stayed behind, and while Anadi went on to a good education and a career, Rohit's schooling collapsed under the weight of a poor local education system.
That gap between two friends' lives became the reason Udbodh exists. Anadi returned with fellow founders Keshav and Krishna to launch Udbodh — an organisation built to empower people through education so that everyone, regardless of where they are born, gets the chance to make informed, life-changing choices.

Masauli's ~1,000 residents are divided across caste-based hamlets — Chamrauti, Bhabnauti, Lohran, Kohran and Dhobhiyan. Udbodh works across every corner of the village, not just one.
Our fellows are educated girls selected from Masauli itself — so change is led from within, not parachuted in from outside.
We partner with local panchayats and authorities to raise awareness of government schemes and push for better sanitation and healthcare access.
A door-to-door survey across every hamlet of Masauli surfaced the issues that shape everything we do.
Only 1 girl in 100 goes on to college.
60% of Grade 5 children cannot read a Grade 2 text.
More than half of children drop out before finishing middle school.
Just two houses in the entire village have a toilet.
Lack of education drives heavy migration to Delhi and Mumbai.
Only 4 hours of electricity a day — not enough for farming or business.
Nearest health clinic is 10 km away.
Women face discrimination at every stage of life.
Udbodh runs a residential fellowship where committed young women from the community are trained and mentored to reform elementary education from within — for as long as it takes.
Fellows are selected from educated girls in the community and receive round-the-clock mentoring to sharpen their pedagogy and content delivery. The goal: measurably better learning outcomes for 70+ children and deeper trust with villagers and stakeholders.
The program builds fellows' self-understanding and skills — communication, mobilisation, planning, advocacy and management — turning them into change-makers for life. Because fellows come from the community, Udbodh stays community-centric, working on every issue a village faces, from classroom content to shifting parents' mindsets.
Every Udbodh fellow, team member, or local graduate is chosen against the same bar — because the work asks a lot of the people who do it.

Launched in loving memory of Late Gajanand Teluram Agarwal, this early-learning centre brings a play-based, Montessori-inspired classroom to young children — built in partnership with Sampoorna Shiksha and the PWF Foundation.
